Yesterday’s mass readings paired with our priest’s homily served as a salve to some aches and anger I’ve been wrestling. It was a blessing and reassurance to hear him speak necessary truths from the pulpit.

Our priest highlighted how our lived faith is about the sanctity of souls.

Not our comfort.
Not another’s comfort.

The sanctity of souls.

Our priest emphasized how, if we are not preaching the Catholic faith through our lives – actively and passively – we are hypocrites1.

If we are knowingly misleading others through our words and actions out of personal opinion rather than the Truth of who God says He is, we are hypocrites.

Then, our priest called out specific sins: abortion and abuse.

He identified these specific sins and noted there are other great sins where hypocrisy runs deep3 before calling out how knowingly participating in or advocating for (passively or actively) such atrocities is opposed to our faith and will not lead others (or ourselves) to Heaven.

In charity, our priest noted that, while we do not decide who goes to Heaven, we know and trust God’s just judgement2 which should call us – the Church – to action.

Praise God, he said it from the pulpit!

In my limited experience, priests do not tend to preach in such specifics, but we need to hear it.
We need to hear our convictions are not fruitless and that productive passion is important because souls are at stake.

We must preach our faith with our lives.
We must encourage fellow Catholics to live with the conviction Paul applauds2.

Our lived faith is about the sanctity of souls.

Not our comfort.
Not another’s comfort.

It is about eternal life.

Our enteral life.
Another’s eternal life.

The sanctity of souls.

3 We can all list the myriads of sins where hypocrisy runs deep, I’m sure, because there will always be Church teaching to wrestle with.
